SGPS members are entitled to full access to the AMS/SGPS Food Bank, located in McGillivray-Brown, which provides confidential and non-judgmental food service to members of the Queen’s community. It is a non-profit organization which aims to provide clients with food services in the most comfortable environment possible. They operate mainly on donations as well as an opt-outable student fee from both the AMS and the SGPS. As a non-profit organization, they aim for the funds to be put towards the upkeep of the Food Bank itself in the purchasing of fresh fruits, vegetables, milk and other items on a weekly basis.
TheAMS/SGPS Food Bank provides a reliable and confidential service to ensure that Queen’s students can be healthy and productive as they pursue academic achievement. They also seek to address the underlying causes of poverty so as to alleviate, and ultimately eliminate poverty amongst Queen’s community members. The centre also works closely with other relevant organizations in the Queen’s and Kingston community.
