Important Update to the SGPS Health and Dental Plan

The SGPS would like to announce that, effective immediately, we have entered a new partnership with Rexall pharmacies, via the StudentCare Pharmacy Network, to provide lower out-of-pocket costs on eligible prescription medications and convenient services like online prescription refills and delivery (at select Rexall locations) nationwide.

The 2024-2025 SGPS Executive entered into this agreement in an effort to keep our members’ fee for the SGPS Health and Dental plan as low as possible. This change coupled with the 2025-2026 SGPS Health and Dental fee being subsidized by the SGPS at $27.28 per fee-paying student, allowed us to implement the lowest Health and Dental fee possible on the 2025-2026 fee slate.

Moving forward, under the SGPS Health and Dental plan, all eligible prescription drugs (both generic and brand-name) will be covered up to 80% at all pharmacies across Canada, to an annual maximum of $5,000 per policy year. Members who are on the SGPS Health and Dental plan remain free to use their pharmacy of choice.

Under the new partnership with Rexall, students on the SGPS Health and Dental plan who fill their prescriptions at a Rexall location will receive an additional 20% in StudentCare Pharmacy Network savings (up to an additional $40 worth of coverage).

Currently, the SGPS maintains a separate agreement with the Queen’s Centre location of DrugSmart. This agreement did not extend to any other pharmacy or DrugSmart location. On June 19, 2025, the SGPS provided notice that this agreement will not be renewed. This means that the “preferred pricing” available to SGPS members through the Queen’s Centre location of DrugSmart will no longer be available after August 31, 2025.
