The SGPS is committed to supporting its members. When global events become a part of our daily lives or news cycles, we want to prioritize the well-being of our peers.
If you are struggling, we encourage you to seek support. You are not alone. Students can access:
- Drop-in sessions hosted at QUIC
- Access to booked one-on-one counselling at Student Wellness Services
- Student Wellness Service’s same-day mental health clinic
- After-hours mental health supports
- Queen’s Care Support Services for assistance with navigating support systems and connections to campus services and resources
- Services under Faith and Spiritual Life at Queen’s, including speaking to a Chaplain for one-on-one support, and various support groups and drop-ins.
- The Student Assistance Program (formerly known as EmpowerMe) is a confidential mental health and wellness service available 24/7, 365 days a year to all SGPS members, regardless of whether you have paid the SGPS Health and Dental Plan fee.
- Telephone Aid Line Kingston is a distress, crisis, befriending, and information phone line serving all members of the Kingston community. The service is non-judgmental, confidential, and anonymous. Experienced volunteers are available between the hours of 6 P.M. – 2 A.M at 613.544.1771.
Students can also request short-term academic consideration if they are struggling to meet their academic obligations during this difficult time. If you are having issues obtaining academic obligations, please contact the SGPS Student Advisor program at advisors@sgps.ca.
The university will continue to provide extensions for winter tuition/fees payment, as well as emergency bursaries when requested, and ensure students don’t incur late fees. Students should email financialaid@queensu.ca and briefly outline the request, including their student number.
