On October 26th the SGPS is going to the theatre for Firewater Thunderbird Rising 2. The Kingston Grand explains the piece as “A stunning multi-disciplinary contemporary dance presentation from Indigenous choreographer Christine Friday. Christine says that Thunderbird Rising 2 is the transformative spirit of dance travelling through realms of existence – ancestors, dreams, blood memory and the land directly connected to her Anishinaabek way of living and being. In addition to live dance, the performance will include a documentary dance film that witnesses the Friday Family as they return to the site of their residential school and speak their truth on their traditional Family territory”. It should be a great piece and this experience is open to Indigenous and non-indigenous students alike, so it provides a good opportunity to learn more about Indigeneity and Indigenous culture.
This is a “Pay What You Can” event, which allows you to attend the performance at no charge and remit a voluntary amount after the show based on your experience.
